How to Shine Despite the Darkness

How to Shine Despite the Darkness

Shining Your Light

When everything feels overwhelming and too much to handle, how can we move forward?  "Light just one candle.  It won't solve everything, but this one light can help the next person see how to light their own."  This was the advice shared with me from a trusted coach in my network as we commiserated about the state of the world.  Because when it feels like you can't do anything, we need to remember we CAN do something.  We can shine our light.

From Dim to Bright

What does "lighting one candle" mean to you?

What is one small action you can take that makes a difference in your immediate surroundings?  We can't fix the world.  But we can:

  • Be an example for others

  • Donate to a local food bank, charity, or cause

  • Help a neighbor

  • Pick up a piece of trash

  • Offer a kind word

  • Listen

  • Smile

  • NOURISH OURSELVES

Another amazing woman in my network shared this inspiring quote from Marianne Williamson:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Whether you use the term God, Universe, Nature, or something else, this speaks such profound truth.  Don't play small.  You're short-changing all of us.

My favorite line is "as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same".  Yeah.  We do.

Shining your light may be claiming and owning your accomplishments for all to see.  Shining your light may be modeling the behavior you want to see more of.

Shining your light may be being the most YOU that you can be, right here, right now, with all of your beautiful strengths and differences.

Will you light one candle?  Will you shine however you can to help make a difference in the world?

My one light is sharing this inspiration with all of you.  I am also intent on enjoying time with my family this weekend, sharing some laughs and Halloween fun, and letting my nervous system reset.

You don't have to do it all.  You can't do it all.  But you can do one thing.

Find one way to bring light into your life.  You deserve it.  The world needs it.  YOU need it.

Cheers to your beautiful radiance,
Sharon
