When the World Feels Heavy, Shine On

When the World Feels Heavy, Shine On

Things feel so heavy

The weight of this week is real.  Whether your candidate won or lost, there is a lot of reconnection and unity needed.  And every time I turn on the news it is more divisive, bad news.  Everything from weather to wars to loss to violence to name-calling to injustice - it all feels like too much.  But in the midst of all of these heavy, frightening headlines, there is so much good happening.

There are first days of school, new work opportunities, babies being born, words of kindness, hugs, people falling in love, businesses being opened, people being saved, goals being reached, people healing from their health issues, and dreams coming true.  So how can you not let the weight of the world crush your spirit?

More Good than Bad

Intention.  By intentionally focusing on the good in the world when you feel weighed down by the bad, you have the ability to reduce some of the burden.

It won't fix it all.  The anger, pain, and feelings you feel need to be felt.  Feel them.  Process them.

And then shift your thoughts to the reality of the situation.  Is there something you can do to help?

If so, then do it.  Find the right organization to donate to.  Apologize for that thing you did.  Send a positive word to someone who needs it.  Stay late and fix that mistake.  Have the hard conversation.  Join a force for change.

And then focus on all of the good in your life.

Don't obsess over all of the pain in the world.  You are one person.  Your heart isn't meant to endure the pain of the world.  Your thoughts aren't meant to process the problems of 8 billion people.  Your mind isn't meant to analyze all of the interdependent complexities of this world.

You matter.  You can make a difference by focusing on something tangible in YOUR world.  One thing, one day at a time.

You don't need to turn a blind eye to the injustices and pain around you. But you don't need to obsess over them either.

When you get weighed down, you aren't useful to anyone.  When you immerse yourself in all of the negativity that you can't control, you aren't letting your beautiful light shine.

The world needs your light.  Now more than ever.

Don't let the weight of the world crush your spirit.  Find your strength, focus on the good, and let your light shine on.

Not to fix the world.  Not to solve all of the problems. But to do one positive thing.

To remind yourself that for every catastrophe, there are 100 miracles.  For all the evil, there are 100xs more good.  The news won't let you believe that because it doesn't sell.

But it is true.  If it wasn't, we would all be gone already.  It would be pure chaos on every corner of the earth if the bad truly outweighed the good.  But it is not all bad.

Let yourself restore your faith in humanity this weekend as you look for ways to do something in your control and shift your focus to all the good that exists.

Sending you love and hope,
Sharon
